IDAT208 - Production & Design

After brainstorming and doing a little research I have decided that I am going to base my project around a kids news website that will take reports and simplify them in order for them to understand them better. I feel it’s vital that kids learn about world and local events in order for them to develop reason in what is right and wrong.

Therefore the research and planning will be collected from various news websites, a questionnaire, TV news for how it’s presented, and Video research to back up stories.

As this project has such a scope I thought it would be a good idea if at the start of the planning there was a brainstorm of ideas and areas that may warrant a multimedia product. See Appendix 1.

Some of the questions that needed to be asked were:

- What age group should I target?
- What could be a possible theme?
- What content should be used?
- Will it be feasible in the time period I have?

Due to other coursework and social commitments I have decided to create a timeline, which will help guide me through what needs to be completed and when. This is how I am going to break the work down baring in mind that I have the following weeks to complete all areas of the project.

6 weeks – Completion of Project
7 weeks – Completion of Workbook
9 weeks – Presentation/Evaluation

Timeline:
Week 1 – 29th January to 4th February
Draft Proposal, Research other websites and interactive media, Questionnaire, Brainstorm, workbook notes.

Week 2 – 5th February to 11th February
Layout sketches, ongoing research, start of development/implementation, workbook notes.

Weeks 3, 4, 5 – 12th February to 4th March
Content, HCI (Human Computer Interaction), Development/Implementation, Workbook notes, Begin Testing towards end of week 5.

Week 6 – 5th March to 11th March
Complete Development/Implementation, Workbook notes, Complete Testing.

Week 7 – 12th March to 18th March
Hand-in Project, Continue with Workbook, Ideas on content of Presentation. Evaluate project

Week 8 – 19th March to 25th March
Hand in Workbook, Undertake own critical evaluation, design presentation. Evaluate Workbook

Week 9 – 26th March to 30th March (End of Term)
Carry out Presentation, Collate Feedback.

During last term we had to create a multimedia project in a group of two for Production & Design Part A, this term in Part B of the module we were asked to create an individual project that would have interactive capabilities.

The project must be completed by the 12th March. The workbook must be completed by the 19th March and there is also a short presentation to some members of the module.

First thing to complete was to set-up a workbook online. There were two main blogging sites that I had a look at were www.blog.co.uk and www.blogger.com. They would both be able to satisfy what is needed, but because blog.co.uk is familiar to me I signed myself up.

I also came to the conclusion that I would wait until the end of the project to post my entire workbook on the blog (http://isad208website.blog.co.uk). It does seem a little stupid of me know but it has meant that I have been able to change and add to things.
